NFT Los Angeles Mission Hills / North Hills

Mission Hills / North Hills

The San Fernando Valley's first oil well was dug right here in 1916, in what had been fertile farm and orchard land. Though most of the homes in Mission Hills and North Hills were built in the '50s, if you look hard you can find a few adobes that have been standing since those early days of well drilling and ranching.

North Hills' Haskell Avenue is home to two of the community's most distinctive buildings: Frank Lloyd Wright Jr.'s Greer House, and the Sepulveda Universalist Society Building, which locals have dubbed "the Onion" for its oddly bulbous shape. About one block east of this map's eastern border is the Mission of San Fernando, for which Mission Hills is named. You don't have to go too far off the known path to take in one of the Valley's prettiest historical sites.See more.
