Peckham

As old pubs, pool halls, telephone boxes, and coal bunkers are converted into galleries faster than you can say 'fixed gear bicycle', it's safe to say Peckham is the epicenter of the new(ish) South London art scene. But don't be scared off--get the cheapest lunch for miles at Manze's or pay a visit to the art/music/religion/theatre behemoth that is The Bussey Building.

Frank's Cafe
Most people do not like Campari. Granted, its flowery bitterness can be like a mouthful of mothball to the uninitiated. But for me this was the main draw to Frank's Café & Campari Bar--not that it's a pop up and situated on the tenth floor of a multi-storey car park in Peckham--the elevator of which only goes up to the sixth floor--or that on its opening this year (last year was its first) tout de Londres' artscene headed by J(anus) Jopling was there. No, I wanted a bar that served only Campari--maybe that would have sorted the wheat from the chaff. Don't believe the whining morons who say this place is a right fag to find (just take the stairs--easy!) nor believe those who say this is the pinnacle of all that is marvellous about London (maybe it is, maybe not)--just go. The vista is rather splendid, the drinks reasonably priced, the food unfussy (and when it runs out that's it so don't come starving). The best view is from the end toilet--which, by the way, is a chemical lav so if you don't like that don't bother coming either.
